What is the Career China Newsletter?

Career China Newsletter is a free monthly newsletter of jobs in the China space for those with China experience or passion.

The mission is twofold: Help professionals at all levels find job opportunities, and build a community across disciplines and countries to equip the next generation of global China specialists.

As a two-time China Studies graduate with degrees from NYU Shanghai and Peking University, I started Career China to help others who are unsure what jobs are available that will understand, value, and grow your own China knowledge.

China is one of the most influential countries in the world today, and touches almost every region, whether economically, politically, or socially. Young professionals with a solid understanding of Chinese culture, language, and society are a benefit to the workforce—and there are employers that know that too.

Let’s pay it forward and help the China field grow. If this newsletter could help someone you know, pass it on!

Disclaimer

This newsletter is for jobs in the China field, not a jobs board for foreigners in the PRC. I feature relevant job descriptions from all over the world.

FAQ

  • Does this relate to your main job? No, I write this newsletter independently and as of now receive no funding.

  • How do you find all these roles? Having worked and studied in the China field for my entire professional life I’ve accumulated a lot of newsletters, social media accounts, and connections in the space. I keep track of all open positions I see posted or hear about, and relevant organizations around the world, and share them in this newsletter with you. Some followers of the newsletter also send me open roles at their organizations—thank you!

  • Are you a recruiter? No.

  • Can you help me get a job? I do not have connections at the majority of these companies, so cannot provide referrals or recommendations unless otherwise stated.

  • How do you decide which jobs to include? I read through the job descriptions, or look at the hiring organization, searching for a combination of factors, which may be all or one of the following: requiring Chinese language knowledge, cultural fluency, familiarity with an aspect of China (such as economy or art), policy knowledge with a focus on East Asia/Indo-Pacific, travel opportunities to China, working in a primarily Chinese-language and cultural environment, preferring existing connections with Chinese businesses/stakeholders
